Preparing for the Biology MCAS –Series
Two
Workshop Series
Sponsored by
The Salem State Collaborative
Description: This workshop series is designed for new and veteran teachers who are interested in expanding their repertoire of lessons in order to help students prepare for the Biology MCAS exam. The program consists of six 2.5-hour sessions, each dedicated to one of the major strands in biology. The focus of each workshop will be on standards-based lessons addressing a specific strand through a variety of methods. Lessons will include laboratory investigations, kinesthetic activities, writing exercises, graphing lessons, internet resources, and outside readings with discussion questions, among others. Participants will leave each session with copies of all lessons and handout materials as well as copies of all former MCAS questions for that strand to use in preparation for the coming exam. Participants will be encouraged to share lesson plans appropriate to these units of study; time will be provided for this.
