Workshop #1

Presenter; Ann Harney, Elementary Science Consultant

Audience: PreK-5

Description: This PreK-5 workshop is an opportunity to discuss, share and learn what best practice looks like in the elementary science classroom. During our time together, we will look at some science investigations, talk
about posing good science questions, and describe the model for conducting effective science lessons.

 

Workshop #2: What ELSE Can I do with Those Cuisenaire Rods and Pattern Blocks?

Presenter: Bob Simmons, Elementary Mathematics Consultant

Audience: Grade 3-5 Classroom Teachers

Description:  Using the Grade Three through Five Mathematics Learning Standards as a guideline, this Sharing Workshop will discuss and review all the many applications and student learning using Pattern Blocks and Cuisenaire Rods. Come share your favorite applications and learn many new ones.

 

Workshop # 3: Ideas for Teaching Using the Saugus Iron Works

 Presenter: Curtis White, Lead Park Ranger at the Saugus Iron Works

Audience: Grade 3-6 Classroom Teachers

Description: Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site commemorates the transfer of iron-making technologies from Europe to New England in the early 1640s. With working waterwheels and blacksmith shop; an archeological museum; and restored, tidal waterfront, Saugus Iron Works is the ideal place to learn about a burgeoning colonial economy, technological innovation, and the
region’s early resources. Curtis White, Lead Park Ranger at the Iron Works will showcase five curriculum-based educational programs available to schools at this beautiful setting including the popular Simple Machines at the Iron Works.
