Description: Using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software in the elementary classroom. Teachers will explore all the possibilities of these familiar and powerful programs to enhance their lessons, home school communication and record keeping in the elementary classroom. Only a very Basic knowledge of the programs is suggested but not required to take this course. If you would like to share any material please bring a flash drive for easy saving of lessons that your instructor or colleagues have created using Microsoft Office programs
Session 1: You
will review/learn all the basic functions that Microsoft Word has to create
engaging lessons, home/school communications and materials for use in the
classroom. You will learn how to search for existing free teacher friendly
templates to inspire and help create dynamic materials. You will learn how to
properly save, share and manipulate Word documents for the ever-changing
demands of the elementary curriculum.
Session 2: On day two you will explore the basic functions and possibilities Microsoft PowerPoint has to offer. You will learn to create save and present engaging presentations for use in the classroom. You will learn how to search find and manipulate existing PowerPoint templates as well.
Session 3: Day
three will focus on using Microsoft Excel as a group instructional tool and
record keeping tool. You will explore
ways to track grades, score assessments, to manage contact information and
more. You will also learn ways to create in class activities which require your
students to interact with Excel as well. You will graph data, find sums, means,
medians, and modes..
Session 4: Session four will focus on Microsoft Outlook as a communication and scheduling tool. You will learn both basic as well as a few advanced skills to send and receive email, manage folders, to create mailing lists, schedule meetings and track attendees. There will also be time in session four for sharing projects created and ideas for new lessons, planners or presentations in a peer to peer setting.
