Description: Teachers often teach a lot of conservation laws (Energy,
Momentum, Torque, Angular Momentum, Mass, etc.) yet the basic concepts are all
the same. Instead of teaching each of
these laws as separate, distinct entities, we will explore options for teaching
conservation as a major concept with
each of the laws as special cases. The
group will decide which major conservation laws we want to explore and will
perform in-depth labs on these topics; smaller labs and activities will be
provided for the other concepts. The
labs will be rich in their use of technology using data collection and analytical
devices including probes. Help your
students to explore the forest of conservation while at the same time seeing
each of the special case trees more clearly.
All activities are standards based and hand-outs will be provided for
each.
