PDP’s: 10 Hours with Completed Project

Description: In this grade 3-5 workshop, we will carry out investigations that focus on the big ideas presented in Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and discuss how they can be presented in our classrooms. Some of the concepts we will explore are forms of energy, adaptation of living things, and properties of rocks and minerals. We will discuss how to teach and assess these concepts, review some of the books available to support these concepts, and look at the cross-curricula connections.
Session1- What are some forms of energy?
What can we learn about magnets? Electricity?

Session 2- What do we mean by adaptation?
What are some adaptations of animals? What are some adaptations of plants?

Session 3- What makes a mineral a mineral? What makes a rock a rock?
How can we sort and classify rocks?

Session 4- What does assessment look like in the inquiry based classroom?
